Thomson Residence, 1957, by Buff, Straub and Hensman. Featured on the rear cover and pages 50-55 of Donald Hensman's book Buff & Hensman, this home is an important example of the architects' early post-and-beam work. The 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home was the Winner of the 2012 Preservation Award for its museum-quality restoration during 2011-2012, and also a featured story in the LA Times on January 5, 2013. Virtually every surface was restored or re-built to exacting detail. All new systems including plumbing, electrical, roof and zoned heating/air conditioning. Kitchen features Sub-Zero refrigerator and Miele appliances. The two-story glass and wood pavilion is located within a Historic District in the Hills of Pasadena and offers mountain and city views. The home also features expansive decks, patio and grassy yard, which provide the perfect California indoor/outdoor flow that made these architects famous. This home is under the Mill Act. |
